Tips for Learning
Community Asset Audit
Working with other local congregations, brainstorm what you know about community assets related to hunger/food security, healthcare access, and welcoming immigrants. What assets exist in your town/city? What are the assets at the county level?
For example, are there food pantries?
Where are these services located/how would one logistically access those services (location & times)? Are there any social barriers to accessing those services?
Identify any gaps - location, transportation, etc.
Sources for Information
Work with a local librarian or the United Way in your area to understand the community context.
Learn about who lives in your community by exploring the demographics using the U.S. Census Bureau.
